Throughout the entire lifecycle of an embedded Linux-based product, it must be ensured that the relevant requirements are met by the system – ideally in a demonstrable and traceable way. This matters in the development phase, but particularly in the maintenance phase, where for every new release it must be ensured that the requirements are still met.
Automated testing of security updates throughout the lifecycle
This plays a special role with security or safety requirements. In the context of regulatory requirements, their fulfilment must be demonstrable in a formal process after any change to the software.
The emlix test framework, with its infrastructure and processes, makes it possible to safeguard changing software versions and software requirements in a traceable way throughout the entire lifecycle, even in a given regulatory context.
Thanks to a high degree of automation and standardisation, its use is highly efficient.

emlix Test Framework
Efficient, reproducible testing
Thanks to a unification and completion of the technology stack that has grown and been optimised over the years, the emlix test framework is not only largely automated but also highly efficient. Because of our roots in projects with a regulatory context, the reproducibility of tests and test results was a key paradigm from the outset.
Evidence of secure software properties
In a regulated environment in particular, the freedom from side effects of changes on assured product or software properties and functions must be presented demonstrably and traceably.
The emlix test framework is optimised for precisely such tasks: in an efficient, standardised process, a new software release or a patched version can be „free tested“ against a set of relevant requirements. Tests and test results are reproducible in the process.
Adoption of established open-source technologies, avoiding vendor lock-in
The emlix test framework is based on generally available open source technologies, including the Robot Framework. Our customers therefore have the option at any time of taking the test setup over to themselves.
Automated testing of security updates throughout the lifecycle
Not only the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) but also, for example, the medical device directives and other standards require regular software updates with the aim of maintaining an adequate security level. This results in regular software updates, also or in particular at the level of the embedded Linux system. With the emlix test framework, this process can be mapped efficiently, securely and demonstrably.
